There's a grin on her date's face
it is shaved and sweaty and clean
and it persists as he stands there
rubbing the crying girl's back.
It is pointed up like the lapels of his
blazer
it is baleful
like the width of his neck
and the hair that creeps up it
and reaches out of his collar.

He calls the cab
and pushes her head down into it
and shuts the door
and tells the cabbie where to go.
